A book is a movie.

A book is a movie. When you first start reading a book it’s like a movie starts playing in your head. For example, in The Hunger Games you start to envision Katniss and Peeta, you make up what Panem looks like, and you play out what’s going on in the games in your head. You create images of the characters, the place, and all the things that are going on inside the book. The vivid descriptions that authors provide help you to create the movie inside your head and make the book more enjoyable. If an author doesn’t provide these descriptions that make the book come to life, then there is no point in reading it. It becomes a boring and useless book that doesn’t let your imagination run free. In Joe Meno’s, “A book is A Place,” he says, “The fact that books provide us the place to imagine is critically important.” I couldn’t agree more with this statement. Without having the ability to imagine, we can’t envision the book. A book should leave room to let our minds wonder so that our imagination can set free.
On the e-readers vs. books disagreement, I prefer both. Tom Piazza said, “If there’s no future for books, there’s no future.” I disagree with this statement because I think that they’re will always be a future with physical books. We need them. Many people like the feel of physical books and the fact that you can show them off. E-readers may be becoming increasingly popular, but I don’t believe everything can be done on an e-reader. Of course, your basic reading of a novel can, but I definitely don’t want to be on an e-reader searching through my 600 page college textbook trying to find a passage that I need. I own a Nook, and while I love reading on there, I always find myself missing the feel of reading out of a physical book. The smell when you first open it, bookmarking the pages, and physically seeing myself making progress in the book always gives me an exhilarating feeling.

Why I read...

The main reason that I read is because I love it. Reading can present to you absolutely anything. Whether it's a dystopian world on a planet we've never heard of, or the budding of a romance between two some-what perfect characters. The posibilities are endless, really, when it comes to reading, and I love that aspect about it. Another reason I read is because it gives me something to talk about with other people. Sitting down and having a conversation over one of your favorite books, or even one you hate, can open an endless conversation between two people. One of my favorite things about reading books is when they get turned into movies. It is so interesting to me to see how the directors and producers can turn a book into a major motion picture. The joy of seeing a movie that's based off of one of your favorite books can be overwhelming.

Reading is something that we can't escape. Either you like reading or you despise it. I'm proud to say that I love reading because of it's endless possibilities, the picture's it creates in your heads, and the message it leaves with readers. You should never have an excuse not to read. Pick up a book, open it's cover, and jump in.
